When I was asked to photograph Kim & Wai in their workplace, I didn’t expect what’s the extents of the shoot. I thought it was something quite general, until I walked pass layers of doors and reached the operating theatre. Hospital might be a taboo to most people. And the previous memory I had with hospital was the last moments with my mum. Thus It wasn’t a straightforward yes to proceed with a photoshoot in another hospital. It’s a mixed feeling. And yet I remember what a dear friend told me that strength comes from deep sorrow. And it probably was another gifted timing when I was entrusted by this amazing doctor couples, for me to positively face the hospital. I got to wear sanitized protective clothes and wrap of my shoes. In the whole process, I couldn’t help but kept feeling impressed by the professionalism of everyone works in hospitals, from the medical supports, cleaning staffs, to doctors. They earn my respect. A place where people welcome / fight for / send off life. And a place where these two spent lots of their time dedicatedly. I don’t thank them by returning their photos; I want to return their story to them. – Kai
